I walked with my friend to the newsstand the other night, and he bought a paper, thanking the newspaper seller politely. The seller didn’t even acknowledge it.
幾天前的一個晚上，我和我的朋友走到一處報攤，他買了份報紙，並禮貌的向賣報紙的人道謝。那個賣報紙的人甚至不回謝。
“ A sullen fellow, isn’t he? ” I commented.
“一個愛理不理的傢伙，不是嗎?” 我問道。
“ Oh, he’s that way every night. “ shrugged my friend.
“噢，他每晚都如此。”我的朋友聳聳肩說。
“ Then why do you continue to be so polite to him? “ I asked.
“那你為什麼還要對他這麼有禮貌?” 我問道。
“ Why not?“ inquired my friend. “ Why should I let him decide how I’m going to act? “
“為什麼不呢?” 我的朋友詢問道。”我為什麼要讓他來決定我要如何行動呢?”
